Boisdale of Belgravia – 13-15 Eccleston Street
The Boisdale, established in 1988 by Ranald Macdonald, son of an ancient and royal Scottish clan, is located in an elegant Regency town house, just a short distance from Victoria. The decor of the restaurant consists of dark greens and reds along with oak floors and panelling, whereby a diverse and eclectic mix of art and paintings adorn the walls. The atmosphere is that of a comfortable and hearty gentlemen’s club with a clientele of actors, businessmen, city and corporate executives, journalists and politicians. The oldest part of Boisdale is the Auld Restaurant, an elegant dining room that provides a quiet and sedate atmosphere. Being a large and spacious room it can accommodate receptions for up to 60 people. The wood-panelled Jacobite Room is situated above the Auld Restaurant and hung with oil paintings, ornate mirrors and chandeliers. This splendid and private dining room is an elegant space in which to dine and entertain and is always available for private functions. The Macdonald Bar, the most diverse of the Boisdale rooms, exudes the aura of a classic 40′s jazz bar and restaurant. It features a cocktail bar with an amazing selection of classic cocktails from the jazz era, a formal restaurant and live jazz performed nightly by courtesy of Richard Pite and his Boisdale Blue Rhythm Band.
Il Convivio – 143 Ebury Street
Opened in 1999, this amazing Italian restaurant is set in a converted Georgian house that still retains all its original period features. The decor of the main restaurant consists of limestone and cedar wood panelling, with deep red walls embossed with poetry taken from Dante’s poetical works very much reminiscent of the Romantic era. The conservatory area has an electric roof which enables all year round al-fresco dining. The ever-changing menus of head chef Lukas Pfaff include delicacies such as terrine of octopus with tomato essence, radish and beef Carpaccio with celery and basil infused with extra virgin olive oil along with the ever popular homemade black spaghetti with lobster and spring onions and duck and pea ravioli with a foie gras sauce. Fish dishes include Arctic black cod caramelized with aged balsamic vinegar and pan-fried fillet of halibut with a ‘soft shell’ crab sauce and black olive tapenade. Clay pot roasted ‘black leg’ chicken with an aged Marsala sauce and veal cutlet served with a fine herb and caper butter are just two of the superb meat dishes. A fabulous dessert is the dark chocolate and pistachio pudding with a sour cherry sorbet as well as a varied selection of homemade sorbets and ice creams. With their confidence and passion and twenty-five years of experience in the catering industry, owners Enzo and Piero have produced a desirable addition to the perfect dining experience.
