The Blue Bar /Berkeley Hotel - Wilton Place
As its name suggests, this buzzing and upmarket bar situated in the Berkeley Hotel is embellished in a striking shade of what designer David Collins has named as Lutyens Blue, so called after Edwardian architect Sir Edwin Lutyens who originally designed the small side room. Cherubic friezes adorn the walls and aided by subdued lighting appear to gaze down onto the black crocodile-print leather floor. Faux ostrich leather stools line up against the gleaming and easily accessible white onyx bar while other comfortable and co-ordinating armchairs in leather and wood surround small circular white onyx tables. The high ceiling with its period stucco design lends an elegance to the room where signature cocktails such as the Berkeley Champagne and the sublime Ginger Cosmopolitan are served with a passion for perfection. There are over 50 different whiskies to choose from as well as a good range of champagnes and selected wines served by the glass. Savoury and sweet tapas-style dishes are also available. The atmosphere of the Blue Bar with its excellent background of dance music is decidedly funky and vibrant and fast becoming an exclusive and popular celebrity hangout.
